I remember thinking people who had been married 40 years were really old. And today I am that person.
I loved Dan on my wedding day. I love Dan even more today.
Over the years, love has caused me to soar and caused me to crash. Love has caused me to laugh joyously and weep bitterly. Love has healed deep wounds but also caused deep wounds. Love has been exhilarating and devastating. Love has made the last 40 years worth living!
As I reflect on 40 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart, I am totally convinced of one thing – the more I become rooted and grounded in God’s love for me, the more I am able to love and be loved freely and generously.
Thank you, Lord, for your unfailing love! I love You.
Thank you, Dan, for 40 wonderful years! I love you.
I Corinthians 13, Ephesians 3:14-21
I love you, sweetheart!

What a beautiful example of God’s blessings you two are to each other and to those who know you. I pray my wife will have a similar sentiment on our 40th. Thank you for sharing.

Dale, congratulations on this tremendous milestone. Your observation that, “As I reflect on 40 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart, I am totally convinced of one thing – the more I become rooted and grounded in God’s love for me, the more I am able to love and be loved freely and generously.” is profound, and inspiring. Thank you for sharing these reflections.

It’s a wonderful thing. There are a lot of leadership lessons to be learned, like commitment, humility, adjustment, and the reality that communication is a work in progress. 🙂

Dale;
My wife Debb & I are celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary today. Like you, I married my High School sweetheart. We have endured much over thirty six years experiencing all the challenges love an family can offer. It wasn’t always easy, but with the Lord in both our lives we never allowed the bad times to ‘break us’, nor did we take for granted the good times the Lord has allowed us to share.
Enjoy this very special day together and hopefully, “Lord willing”, we both will be lucky enough to enjoy many more joyous years together…
Please give my best to Dan, and HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ! !
SGT Steve
