Faith, Safety, Security, Strength

We’re in a fierce raging battle – a spiritual battle!  Sometimes we’re fully aware of it and sometimes we’re oblivious. Yet it rages on!

King David’s spiritual battle involved real physical enemies that were trying to kill him. He was surrounded, confronted, terrified and distressed. He felt like death was imminent. But he knew what to do. He ran for cover!

  • He cried out to God for help!

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.  Psalm 18:6

  • He kept God’s Word front and center!

The Lord my God illumines my darkness.  Psalm 18:28

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  Psalm 119:105

I believe God sometimes allows our battle to become fierce so we will learn to trust Him in new says.  We learn some very important things in the midst of the battle.  We learn:

  • God is upholding me.
  • God is training me and teaching me.
  • God is gentle with me.
  • God is enabling me.
  • God is girding me with strength.
  • God is keeping me from slipping and falling.
  • God is working out His plan and purpose for me.

As a young girl, I remember running to my grandmother’s lap for cover.  It felt safe there.  I also remember being told by another family member that I was getting too big to sit on my grandmother’s lap.  I remember feeling sad about that.

Aren’t you glad we never get too big for God’s lap?

Run to Him for cover!  Run ashamedly!

You will say, like David in Psalm 18:1-2,

I love you, O Lord, my strength.  My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.

Serve With What You Have

How are you?  Are you having a good day or a bad day? And how do you determine if it’s a good day or a bad day?

I woke up around 3:30 am this morning and could not go back to sleep.  So I got up and went to work downstairs in my office.  I was able to get a lot done before lunch and felt like I was having a good day.  But then the early morning caught up with me and I felt exhausted.  Consequently, not much was accomplished this afternoon.  So now I don’t feel so great about my day.

What does the Lord think about my day?

…whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. I Peter 4:11

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.  Mark 12:30

Sometimes our strength is limited.  We can be physically or emotionally worn out. Isn’t it great that God does not ask us to serve with strength that we do not have? He simply asks us to serve Him and others with the strength He has supplied. He asks us to love Him with all our strength.

If you’re tired today, why not take this opportunity to sit down, rest and spend some time in His Word? The Lord wants us to come to Him when we are weary so He can give us rest. Matthew 11:28

Impossible!

scream-cartoon-paintingTerrified!  Angry! Astounded!  These are a few of the emotions I felt that day as I read a letter that I received in the mail.  The letter was full of lies, accusations and threats. I knew I was in for a battle and I felt like David up against Goliath.  I felt totally inadequate.  I was shaking in my boots.  Whether I was shaking from fear or anger, I’m not sure.  Probably both.

So I ran to the Word of God to find help and refuge.  I poured over the Psalms and the passages that reassured me that God is my Refuge and He is the One fighting the battle for me.  I cried out to Him for help.  I cried out to Him for strength.  I cried out to Him for wisdom – Over and over again, day after day.  And He came to my aide.

Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian believers:

“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”  Ephesians 3:16-21

Sometimes God brings us to impossible situations so He can demonstrate His love and power to us in a very personal way. He wants us to become more rooted and grounded in His love. He wants us to experience His enabling power. He is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all we ask or think.   To Him be the glory!
